A month, BI Prints New Money Rp 56.4 trillion

JAKARTA-Bank Indonesia (BI) said it has printed new money  for this year about Rp 160 trillion. But specially in Ramadan, the central bank has been printing new money as much as Rp 56.4 trillion.

BI Deputy Governor Ronald Waas explains the need for the printing of new money was up about 10 percent compared to last year, around Rp 150 trillion.

"Especially in Ramadan, we print the Rp 56.4 trillion. If in a normal month, printing new money is only about Rp 13.3 trillion per month," Ronald said after a press conference at the Office BI Jakarta, Monday (7/23/2012) .

Printing money large enough in the month of Ramadan is usually a surge in anticipation of withdrawals in the month of Ramadan and the holiday. So BI  viewed it is important to anticipate such an important day.  "We print about 6.1 billion trillion of money a year," he added.

Executive Director of the Department Head of Money Distribution BI Gatot Sugiono describes the total procurement of new money this year to Rp 2-3 trillion. Cost includes the purchase of paper up to the cost of transport to all regional offices of  BI throughout Indonesia.

BI currently has 14 offices across Indonesia. "The paper must be imported from Europe and Russia. Peruri just print it," he said.(kompas.com)
